The New Stick Game - Episode 1
I am now working in an inner city school in Detroit with 8th graders.
March 6th 2018.
Students first order of business was to rearrange the group so that they could be with their friends. They still remained in groups of 6, even though I never said that that was mandatory for any reason. Their next order of business was to cut taxes. They quickly learned that two of the groups were being favored over to other ones. They all receive different amounts of sticks to begin with, but to our favorite to have more than the others. They also made laws cutting taxes in half, but not abolishing them. Their final law of the day was to make anyone caught stealing pay 20 sticks in penalty. This was overwhelmingly supported by the rich groups, and overwhelmingly opposed by the poor groups. However, there was one more rich person then there were poor people, so the rich people won the day. I wonder how this will change tomorrow when there may be a more equal base.
